Mediation
Mediation is a voluntary process where parties meet together with a trained neutral mediator who has been specifically trained to try and work with both parties to reach an agreement. The mediator will not tell you what to do but will work with you in trying to get both of you to arrive at your own solutions. You may still require a solicitor to implement the decisions which have been arrived at but if all the discussions and negotiations are already out of the way and agreed then this will very often be relatively straight forward and cost effective.
However, mediation is not necessarily easy and it does involve both of you agreeing to the process and agreeing to meet each other. It won’t work unless you are prepared to have an open mind about matters but it can be highly effective if there are disputes concerning children or complicated financial situations to work out.
