After Adoption

An Adoption Order means you become the legal parent of the child concerned and assume the legal rights and responsibilities for the care of the child.  The child’s biological parents no longer have these rights and responsibilities and no longer have any financial obligation towards the child.

With regards to succession, an adopted child will no longer have any legal rights in respect of their birth parents estate and will acquire rights to the estate of their adopted parents. To ensure your estate is inherited as you would wish, we recommend you update your Will after you adopt a child and again, we can take care of this for you.
